US Department of Agriculture fights invasive species with statistics

Approving a commodity – a plant or plant products – for entry into the US requires identification of exotic pests associated with it in its country of origin, analysis of those pests and a mitigation plan to control them as the commodity moves along its path to the consumer.

To safeguard US agriculture and natural resources from the risks posed by plant pests and noxious weeds, the USDA uses JMP® for sample design, experimental design and repair, data analysis and more.

JMP® helps scientists in the USDA’s Plant Protection and Quarantine Division assess the risks of plant pest invasions, curtail their entry, and monitor their movements and populations.
