The Sustainable Development division of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) holds an annual service volunteer project with a nonprofit prior to each annual conference.

For year #7, they decided to take on two nonprofits on the same day in Orlando, Florida on May 19, 2019.

  1. Rise Against Hunger – Prepare meals that address hunger to those in need
  2. Habitat for Humanity Osceola – Building affordable homes

The volunteers have backgrounds in industrial engineering, systems engineering and process improvement (lean and Six Sigma). What makes these volunteer projects unique is that they provide feedback to the organizations at the end of the event on ways they can improve their operations and/or volunteer experience.
