During remarks on the U.S. Senate floor Wednesday, Senator Pete Ricketts, a Republican from Nebraska, spoke about the Department of Government Efficiency and how his state has utilized Lean Six Sigma methods from the private sector to reduce costs and improve services to residents.
He shares the example of improving the air construction permitting process, which was 110 steps to complete. Through improvement work, they were able to reduce it to 22 steps, which resulted in wait time from 190 days to 65 days without reducing services to the taxpayers.
They trained over 30,000 workers in White Belt, 6200 managers in Yellow Belt, 248 Executive Green Belts and 9 Black Belts.
They saved over $115M in hard savings, along with 900,000 less hours of work, 60,000 in less square footage and reduced employment by 3.5%. They were also able to reduce spending growth from 6% to under 3%.
