Patrick Anderson on Applying Lean to Grant Writing

Patrick Anderson is interviewed by Mark Graban, the CEO of the Rural Alaska Community Action Program (RurAL CAP). RurAL CAP is a private, statewide, nonprofit organization working to improve the quality of life for low-income Alaskans.

He shares his experiences about shifting an organization away from a “command and control” approach, what “respect for people” means to him, and he’ll also talk about their “performance management system.”

He gives an example how he has applied lean to create a hopper of grant ideas, and how they determine priority and expectations for that process.

He also discusses ideas from Dr. W. Edwards Deming, and what he has learned from different organizations. He also talks about Training Within Industry (TWI) and connecting it to their performance management information system.
