Increasing Benefits to Homeless Applicants by 75% at Cape Cod Child Development

Cape Cod Child Development is a trailblazer in applying Lean Six Sigma to the nonprofit world. Lisa Donovan, Director of Family Advocacy is helping to increase services available to the homeless population.

The goal of the project was to increase the homeless families receiving benefits at Cape Cod Child Development.

Some Lean Six Sigma tools used were a Pareto Chart, Fishbone Diagram, Impact Effort Matrix and a run chart.

They were able to achieve the goal by increasing the number of homeless families receiving benefits from 2 to 10.

Lessons learned: It’s important to get to know each department that works within the nonprofit. Get right into the trenches and find out exactly what each department does and see what their processes are and then take it from there.
