Lean and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – Lean Blog Podcast

Mark Graban interviews Christopher D. Chapman, Senior Lean Transformation Coach at Chapman Lean Enterprise, and Dr. Valeria Sinclair-Chapman, a social scientist, Associate Professor, and Director of the Center for Research on Diversity and Inclusion at Purdue University.

They discuss Christopher’s article “Lean in Lean Thinkers to Root Out Racial Inequity” and the intersection and overlap between Lean transformation and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).

He suggests looking at the processes to see how Black professionals fall out of the hiring and promotion processes, and look for ways to improve the yield or success rates.

In Lean, a common phrase is “no problem is a problem” and the same goes for racism and inequities. If you don’t think there are racial inequities, that is a problem.
