Connecticut Travel Policy and Reimbursement Modernized After Lean Event

The Department of Administrative Services is responsible for setting policy for statewide travel across all agencies, and they needed to have processes that were updated to the 21st century, as many were outdated and burdensome.

There was resistance to spending an entire week in a lean event, especially when dealing with staff shortages. However, they knew that improvements were needed.

They gathered agencies that do a lot of travel and brought them together to review the travel and reimbursement process and found many opportunities to streamline and modernize the process, especially for infrequent travelers. They were also able to learn about a different approach from the State of Alabama that they plan to adopt.
