City of Cape Coral (Florida) prepares video about upcoming Lean Government Initiative

In 2010, the City of Cape Coral (near Fort Lauderdale) embarked on a Lean Government initiative. They created a short video to promote the program using the Mission Impossible theme.

The program was supported by City Manager, Terrance Stewart. The video highlights a few case studies:

• Public Works/Services Division – Reduced swales process from 2 years to 6 months, driveway reconstruction cost reduction avoidance of $4700, reduced driveway access downtime from 168 hours to 48 hours.
• Department of Community Development – reduced time to obtain permit from 21 days to 8 days.
• Fire Department Human Resources – Time to hire new firefighter from 67 days to 30 days.

Cape Coral began transforming in Aug 2007 by using kaizen methodologies to establish new breakthrough processes. The results are in the +millions, exceeding any Baldridge award winner by setting ROI of +20X.
